From the Battlefield to the Canvas

How art became my bridge from battlefield to healing.

  • 1993 - I joined the USMC

  • 1999 - I volunteered for Explosive ordnance Disposal (bomb squad - the most dangerous job in the world)

  • 2001 - I decontaminated a senate office from anthrax

  • 2006 - I was blown up in Iraq, suffering a brain injury, spinal cord damage, internal injuries, and post-traumatic stress

  • 2007 through 2023 - I tried multiple forms of mental health therapy with some positive results

  • 2023 - I discovered painting and that calming myself, using some military discipline, and focusing on the finished product, one brush stroke at a time, is a path to real healing.
